Going “Home” again

Traveling to tell the story of the Conley Sisters led BZ to many places, one of which was an ancestral home where her origins begin.

Walker House: Built 1870’s

This is the home where her great great grandparents once lived and raised their family. The home that would be the springboard for the fountain of stories and tales we hear today. The family that would create the values and ethics of a human we all know and love so dearly.

This cabinet belonged to Mary Williams Walker, BZ’s Great Great Grandmother. It is located in the kitchen where BZ’s mother, Betty Zane Walker Smith was born.

Can you imagine what simple treasures and goodies this cabinet held? Midnight chats with tins of butter cookies or a cherished book with a secret letter pressed between the pages?

The cistern that claimed her Great Great Grandfather, Isaiah P. Walker. Looking down the cistern is one of BZ’s Walker cousins, Malinda Walker.

But we often forget that houses have stories too. That they hold secrets and tales. Some joyous and some sad. Some comical and some unbelievable…
