BZ Smith Returns to Strawberry: A Heartfelt Revival

This weekend at the Strawberry Music Festival, something truly special is happening: BZ Smith is returning to the stage for the first time since she retired in 2019.

If you’ve ever wandered through Strawberry’s Children’s Program, chances are you’ve felt BZ’s magic. She didn’t just lead that program — she built it and nurtured it for decades, transforming a simple kids’ activity area into a beloved hub of creativity, storytelling, music, and community. Under her guidance, it became a place where children (and plenty of adults) could connect through song, story, and imagination. For many families, it was — and still is — the heartbeat of Strawberry.

When BZ retired after decades of service, her absence was deeply felt. But like all good stories, hers has a few surprise chapters left. On Sunday, she’ll be stepping back into the festival’s embrace for a special guest performance during the Revival, sharing her voice and spirit with the community she helped shape while Cynthia Restivo, the current Strawberry Village storyteller, hikes the Camino trails of Europe.

Have no fear though…Cynthia will return to the next Festival with many more stories to share!

As someone who has witnessed BZ’s work up close, I can say without hesitation: her presence at Strawberry helped shape not just a program, but a community legacy. Seeing her return feels like watching a cherished story pick up right where it left off — full of warmth, joy, and probably a few happy tears.

Whether you grew up in the Children’s Program or are discovering her magic for the first time, this is a moment not to miss. Gather your friends, grab a spot near the stage, and get ready to welcome BZ home.

“I’ll be watching for your face in the crowd this Sunday morning!”

Coming back to Strawberry feels like coming home to family. The music, the stories, the laughter—it’s all woven into who I am. Every day, I live the Strawberry way.
— BZ Smith.
